The Scattering
In this film, I returned Memory Stones (soft) to my father's final resting place, gently scattering the 41 textile spheres where his ashes had been laid decades earlier.
Created in collaboration with my brother who filmed the performance, this work explores how symbolic gestures help to address unprocessed grief. Through our shared act of bearing witness, we created our own ceremony of remembrance—crafting a moment of acknowledgment that wasn't part of our childhood experience.
The 41 textile stones—one for each year of our father's life—transform the conventional hardness of memorial objects into something soft and yielding, suggesting a more nurturing approach to grief that can evolve and be revisited throughout life.
